Freud came to the conclusions he did and believed what he did because much of it was appropriate for his time. There was a lot of sexual repression in Freud's day; this is why a lot of his theories are related to this. Also, women were percieved as being the weaker sex at that time, and he tried in many ways to manipulate his theories to support this. After all, he would have gained little respect or support if he had just produced wild and radical ideas about equality...
